Tourmakeady
is the name given to this area, a rural district situated between
Lough Mask and the Partry Mountains. It has a population of approximately 1000
people and is a Gaeltacht area. Being a Gaeltacht means that it is a traditional
Irish speaking area.

and the surrounding area offers peace, tranquillity and outstanding scenery.
The mountains and lake provide plenty of activity for the outdoor enthusiast,
whether its hillwalking in the mountains, a leisurely stroll in the local woods
or fishing on Lough Mask.

A century ago something new in the revival of Irish started with the
setting up of Coláiste Chonnacht in Tourmakeady.
