Tourmakeady GAA Club

TOURMAKEADY G.A.A. Club once again are pleased to wish all its G.A.A. members in the Waterfall readership a happy and successful 1998.

On the field of play the all-blacks of Tourmakeady had a busy year fielding a total of ten teams including boys and girls, survived another year in Division 3 and contested the West Mayo Junior final beaten by county champions, Parke. Tourmakeady miners won the County C League title. All other teams gave their best.

Our thanks to all our managers and officers of the club who give so much of their time, totally free, be it cars, travel, phone or worktime, nothing is refundable from any source of the G.A.A, therefore many thanks to all concerned throughout our parish from The Keel Bridge through Srah to the Ferry Bridge.

Colaiste Muire did the parish and its colours proud. Ladies were narrowly defeated in the All-Ireland "A" final in Ballinasloe. The boys winning the Connacht "D" final and the first years narrowly losers of another Connacht title clash. We hope for a repeat performance this year, perhaps even an improved one.

Our boutique of appreciation, this year, goes to our friends, followers and past players in Chicago. They responded to explanatory letter to our major development in the G.A.A. grounds in Tourmakeady. A spectator stand, dugouts, fencing off of the playing field, clubhouse, renovations and car parking structure. Making it more comfortable and easy to follow the events of our G.A.A. players. Huge credit is owed to our exiles that followed on with a wonderful fundraiser on November 22nd in The Heritage Centre in Chicago. The proceeds were simply great. The proceeds of the night will go directly to the stand which, hopefully will be opened early in the summer of 1998. We extend our sincere thanks to all who attended but especially the hard working committee of Willie Barker, Kevin and Teresa Dermody, Frank and Breege Carr, Noreen DeLance, Sean and Julie Lally, Martin and Mary Durkin.

A number of fund raising events will be held here from now till Easter, plus the local lotto club - we are requesting your continued help for a period. It is for the good of the community and all money spent by you will stay in the parish. Our office will accept any donation at any time.
