St Mary's Church, Tourmakeady

The church, named in honour of the Immaculate Conception, was built in 1837 and extensively renovated in 1950-51. It replaced a small thatched church near Pakie Barker's house where the forestry is now. The local women of the area gave their time an energy to maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the church. Outstanding in this respect was the late Annie Lydon whose service in this church is legendary and who was awarded (after her death) the Bene Merente Medal, bestowed for dedicated service to the church by Pope John Paul II.
Following are pictures of the church today.
