Ireland, with over 618,000 acres of lake water and some 9,000 miles of fish bearing rivers enjoys a reputation for game fishing, these being salmon, sea trout and brown trout. In Tourmakeady we have the finest brown trout lake in Ireland and the British Isles, and all free. Lough Mask provides brown trout fishing from March to the end of September, with the best fishing being in the May Fly season, mid May to mid June and again in Mid August to the end of September. Tourmakeady Anglers Club promotes fishing by organising competitions for local and tourist anglers, the biggest being The European Cup Competition. This competition is held in May each year with prizes valued at several thousand pounds. When one considers that free fishing, as we know it in Tourmakeady, has being unknown in most European countries for years, Tourmakeady may well be described as an anglers paradise.
